The goal of the CoP is to provide FHS instructors with a space to share experiences, exchange resources, and learn more about instructional strategies for inclusive teaching in academic and clinical learning environments. The CoP also aims to create a series of recommended, actionable items to share with the Faculty of Health Sciences to improve policies and increase supports for inclusive teaching within the Faculty.
The topic of the first FHS Inclusive Teaching CoP was “Getting to Know Your Learners”. We discussed synchronous and asynchronous strategies to learn more about your students , as well as how to build trust within the classroom.
The November meeting will focus on “Inclusive Case-Based Learning” – exploring how to design cases with inclusive teaching in mind, where to find pre-existing inclusive cases, and common stumbling blocks in case-based learning.
The meeting will have the following structure:
- 9:30-9:50AM: Welcome and Overview of Topic
- 9:50-10:50AM: Group Discussion and Sharing of Experiences
- 10:50-11:00AM: Remaining Questions and Session Wrap Up
Discussion and pre-session preparation will be circulated to those who register via the EventBrite Link, as well as posted in the Community of Practice MS Team.
Facilitator: The FHS Inclusive Teaching Community of Practice Team
Audience: Faculty, teaching assistants, and postdoctoral fellows in the Faculty of Health Sciences. Attendees should either currently, or previously, have a teaching role within the Faculty of Health Sciences or have an interest in teaching.
