Join us on July 7 at 10:00am for a lively discussion about the concepts of ungrading and alternative assessments. During this hour-long virtual session, we invite faculty and students to come and share their experiences with and/or reflections on the concepts of ungrading alternative assessments. Some questions we will discuss include:
- What possibilities exist with these practices? How might we implement them in our teaching practice?
- What are some problems associated with these grading practices, and how might we work to address these problems?
No prior knowledge of or experience with the practice of ungrading or alternative assessment is necessary. We invite you to read through one (or more!) of three short articles by Jesse Stommel on ungrading in advance of the discussion:
In this article, Stommel explains his approach to assessment and how he evaluate students.
In this article, Stommel gives concrete suggestions and tips for instructors who want to learn more about how to ungrade. He also provides an explanation of different strategies for implementing alternative assessments.
In this article, Stommel outlines and answers some common questions he has received about ungrading.
