Consider the local context with respect to Decolonization and Indigenization
The MacPherson Institute has assembled a collection of resources meant to guide educators, administrators, and staff at McMaster University in learning more about what is means to “Indigenize”, or “Decolonize” their classrooms, teaching practices, and institutional decision-making. This includes resources for land acknowledgements for use in teaching contexts at McMaster; local committees, working groups and guides for Decolonization and Indigenization; and several additional resources to help guide you in your educational journey.
Not sure where to start?
A team of educators from Queen’s University has put together a list of 10 Ideas for First Steps toward decolonizing and Indigenizing. This site includes a short video on ways that you might incorporate ideas of decolonization and Indigenization into STEM courses, specifically.
Stay tuned for the next Spotlight on SoTL coming to the MacPherson Memo on October 4, 2023.
