The MacPherson Institute and McMaster University have worked with students, educators and administrators across campus to develop opportunities for educators to learn more about AI, understand how to apply it in the classroom, and consider new and innovative ways to create learning experiences for students.

Teaching Assistants (TAs) are essential to undergraduate education at McMaster. This page is intended to provide valuable information about the McMaster teaching and learning context and helpful resources for McMaster TAs. 

We offer three services for instructors that support the collection of feedback on teaching (before the end of term student evaluations). These services are intended to be developmental opportunities to inform teaching development and enhance the learners’ experience.

We offer multi-day workshops in the spring each year that provide instructors the opportunity to benefit from intensive teaching development.

The Educational Development Fellows Program is an experiential learning opportunity for graduate students who are interested in knowing more about educational development and who are keen to help support teaching and learning at McMaster.

A Certificate of Attendance is designed for individuals who may want to acquire general knowledge or training for career-related purposes, but who neither require nor seek any form of professional or academic recognition. 

The MacPherson Institute is proud to offer Teaching and Learning Certificate of Completion to all educators, including faculty, sessional instructors, graduate students, staff, and post-doctoral fellows. Educators may earn one, or both, of two certificates of completion offered.

A range of resources designed to introduce you to key ideas and skills in teaching and learning in the post-secondary context in Canada.

Staff from the MacPherson Institute facilitate departmental retreats, meetings or workshops on teaching and learning topics. Our focus in facilitation is to meet the needs and goals of the department, while ensuring collegial and collaborative engagement.

Learning to Teach Online is a self-paced course where you’ll find the foundational building blocks in creating an engaging online learning experience.   As you move through these pieces, you will be able to build a plan for an online course, including weekly content and activity development worksheets.

With continuous enrollment through to August 28, the flexible approach to facilitated delivery offers educators multiple opportunities to engage with each one of the six program modules in a way that meets their busy schedules and is free of charge.
