Learning objects are small pieces of content that can be used and reused in a course. Learning objects can help increase engagement, increase retention, improve accessibility and reduce learning barriers. Learning objects can also be fun!
In this 2-part workshop, participants will explore different types of learning objects, understand the creation process and create a simple learning object for use in a course. Participants will be introduced to several educational technology tools with hands-on time in the EdTech Stations within the MacPherson Institute. Support and instruction will be provided by an Educational Developer from the MacPherson Institute.
Workshop part 1
In our first session, we gather virtually to explore how and why learning objects are used, understand the process used to create a learning object, explore some educational technology tools and choose the right tool for your context. By the end of the workshop, you will decide what learning object you will create in the second hands-on workshop.
Workshop part 2
In part 2 of the workshop series, we gather at the MacPherson Institute to receive instruction on your chosen tool, explore and work in the EdTech Stations and finally, add your learning object to your course.
Our workshop series will conclude later with a chance to connect with others and showcase your learning objects.
Note: There is a limit of 3 people per in-person session based on room occupancy. We will identify dates for each type of learning object – 1 day will be video creation, 1 day will be module creation, 1 day will be interactive activities. If required, multiple sessions will be offered.
