Valuing and Evaluating Teaching Hub

The Valuing and Evaluating Teaching (VET) Hub connects stakeholders who are engaged in projects related to how teaching is valued and evaluated at McMaster University. These projects, whether from grassroots efforts or centralized initiatives, can be led by individuals or teams and may impact a department, Faculty, or the University. The Hub facilitates connections among spokes, fostering the exchange of ideas, collaboration, and the identification of common challenges. Through this network, spokes also gain a direct line of communication with McMaster leadership and the broader university community, ensuring that their contributions to McMaster’s culture of teaching excellence are recognized.

Mandate

The mandate of the Valuing and Evaluating Teaching Hub is to coordinate and connect stakeholders involved with valuing and evaluating teaching projects on campus and identify areas where advancements in teaching practice is at odds with existing policy.

Structure

The Hub is structured as a hub-and-spoke model, with a core Advisory Group and one or more “spokes” who are actively involved with a valuing/evaluating teaching project, with an opportunity for interested parties/supporters to stay connected to the group/ongoing work. Please see our Terms of Reference for further information on VET Hub roles and responsibilities and meeting logistics.

VET Hub Spokes & Projects

Projects connected to the VET Hub align with current priorities set in McMaster’s Partnered in Teaching & Learning Strategy. Spokes provide regular updates on their projects to keep this network updated on their successes, challenges, and insights. Please see a list of our spokes & project updates here.
