Winter 2021 course registration is now open for the Teaching and learning certificates of completion program courses

The Teaching and Learning Certificates of Completion Program is open to graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. Students and fellows may earn one, or both, of the following certificates of completion throughout their studies:

Teaching and Learning Foundations Certificate of Completion

(1)         EDUCATN 600: Essential Skills in Teaching and Learning (I) [No prerequisites]

  • The course is a mix of synchronous and asynchronous online learning. The synchronous sessions for the Winter term are:
    • Tuesday, January 12, 2021 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.
    • Tuesday, February 23, 2021 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.
    • Tuesday, April 6, 2021 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.

(2)         EDUCATN 650: Peer-Evaluated Teaching Experience [No prerequisites]

  • The course is a mix of synchronous and asynchronous online learning. The synchronous sessions for the Winter term are:
    • Wednesday, February 3rd, 2021 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. [Full Class]
    • Wednesday, February 10th, 2021 12:30 – 4:30 p.m. [Small Group A]
    • Wednesday, February 24th, 2021 12:30 – 4:30 p.m. [Small Group B]
    • Wednesday, March 3rd, 2021 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. [Small Group A]
    • Wednesday, March 10th, 2021 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. [Small Group B]
    • Wednesday, March 17th, 2021 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. [Small Group A]
    • Wednesday, March 24th, 2021 1:30 – 3:00 p.m.[Small Group B]

Teaching and Learning Scholar Certificate of Completion

The two Teaching and Learning Foundations Certificate of Completion courses (i.e., EDUCATN 600 and EDUCATN 650), PLUS…

(1)         EDUCATN 700: Essential Skills in Teaching and Learning (II) [Prerequisite: EDUCATN 600]

  • The course is a mix of synchronous and asynchronous online learning. The synchronous sessions for the Winter term are:
    • Thursday, January 14, 2021 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
    • Thursday, February 25, 2021 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
    • Thursday, April 8, 2021 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

(2)         EDUCATN 750/751: Principles and Practices of University Teaching. [No prerequisites]

  • Generally, the class will meet online synchronously each week from January 14 – April 8, 2021 (Thursdays) from 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. (note: some weeks will be asynchronous)

(3)         EDUCATN 760: Self-Directed Study [Prerequisites: EDUCATN 600 & EDUCATN 650]

  • Due to lower demand, this course is not being offered in the Winter 2021 term but will be offered again in the Spring 2021 term

Graduate students can register for the courses through Mosaic. Postdoctoral fellows can register for them by emailing Emily Hynes (hynese@mcmaster.ca) and requesting that their name be added to a class list. Registration is first come, first served.
