Celebrating the 2022 IDEAS grant recipients
January 25th marked the official kickoff for the 2022 cohort of IDEAS (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility and Sustainability) grant winners through a virtual celebratory event.
The 2022 grant recipients gathered with a selection of previous recipients, staff from the Equity and Inclusion Office, the MacPherson Institute and other campus partners. Opening remarks were shared by the director of the MacPherson Institute, Lori Goff, as well as McMaster’s acting vice-provost (Faculty), Kim Dej and Kate Brown, Program Manager, AccessMac Program & Network Coordinator, Employee Accessibility Network. In her opening remarks, Goff reflected on this unique time in teaching and learning and shared her excitement about the work the recipients are about to begin.
“While the pandemic has changed many things, it has not changed the importance of the research on teaching and learning that you have devoted yourselves to, and specifically the importance of implementing sustainable changes in the areas of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility in teaching and learning, said Goff. “In fact, one could argue that the pandemic has highlighted the increased importance of this research and work. What we have learned and experienced already, and what we will learn and experience in the near future, may have a significant impact on how we teach and learn moving forward.”
The IDEAS grant provides financial support for one year, to encourage scholarly investigations and the development or implementation of a project that enhances McMaster students’ educational experience. This grant is developed to establish and support a community of faculty via financial support, pedagogical support, and support from subject matter experts on topics related to inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility. In doing so, the program further aims to foster sustainable improvements in teaching and learning and overall enhancement of student learning experiences.
