Teaching and Learning Scholarship
At McMaster, we use the term “Research on Teaching and Learning” as a shared language to build mutual understanding across our campus community. Based on consultations with faculty, staff, and students, we found this term helps clarify the nature and purpose of this work—not only for educators and researchers, but also for students and administrators. By naming it consistently, we create space for meaningful dialogue and collaboration around how we teach, how students learn, and how we can continue to enhance both through inquiry. Please see our “Research on Teaching & Learning at McMaster: A Discussion” report for more information.
Generating Scholarship
We lead and collaborate on scholarship that informs and enhances our efforts to support teaching and learning, contributes to institutional teaching and learning priorities, and develops new knowledge about key teaching and learning issues.
Supporting Scholarship
Teaching and learning scholarship can take many forms, and attracts a wide range of scholars and practitioners. As such, we aim to offer flexible, responsive programming that supports individual scholars and projects, enables collaboration and partnership, and contributes to the development of scholarly communities.
Recognizing Scholarship
We contribute to recognizing and celebrating teaching and learning scholarship by developing opportunities to disseminate scholarly work, creating contexts for scholarly discussions, and supporting the application of scholarship in order to enhance teaching and learning practice.
