Great teachers are an inspiration to teachers and students alike! Whether you are a student, instructor, or staff, you can shape the culture of teaching and learning at McMaster by sharing the stories of great teachers’ methods and impact. As in any scholarly activity, it is important to be learning about what others have done, reflecting on our own practice, and building on existing knowledge. Various opportunities are available to help recognise and celebrate the excellent and innovative teachers on our campus:
We invite you to participate in our teaching and learning culture at McMaster:
- Connect with past award winners, and/or visit their classroom
- Nominate your colleague or teacher for a teaching award
- Find out more about past award winners, and learn about their work
- Connect with MacPherson Institute to prepare your teaching portfolio for a future award, or simply for reviewing evidence of your teaching effectiveness and finding opportunities to enhance your impact on campus
It is important for department administrators to actively encourage and nominate great teachers for their Faculty-level and campus-level awards. Receiving the President’s Award for Outstanding Contributions to Teaching and Learning is an asset to being nominated at the provincial (e.g. OCUFA Teaching Award) and national levels (e.g. 3M National Teaching Fellowship).
Preparing for an award nomination is a rewarding endeavour that takes time and thought. Please consult an Educational Developer (use our Consultation Request Form) as early in the process as possible.
